What make-up would suit my eyes?

Here's a picture of me without make-up:

I'm looking for some advice on make up to bring out my eyes mainly because I mainly wear make-up around my eyes. I would love it if anyone could find me some tutorials on eyeshadow techniques I can try!
I would like to try and find a going out look and an easy everyday look :)

  • want to try something fun? take a hi-res pic of your face with your hair pulled back. if you can do one without makeup, you'll have better results.

    go to www.instyle.com

look the lower-right corner of the page, where it says to try their free makeover tool. it runs a little slow, but it's really fun to try on different celebrity hairstyles, as well as different hair and makeup colors.

upload your pic (you'll have to start an account, but it's free and they only email about once a month).

the best part is that it's free, and so far they haven't limited the amount of makeovers i try, and i've been using it for me and my friends and family for months. if you find a look you like, you can save a copy to your PC, then print it and take it to the salon to give the stylist an idea of what you want.

one more thing that's cool about it: you can try on celebrity looks, like you click a person and they put the hair and makeup on your face all at once. i always just do my own, piece by piece. more fun that way! :-D enjoy.

Mac foundation brushes ?

Hia, i want to buy a mac brush for foundation. What is better the mac 188 or 187?
Thanks xo

It says on the website, that the 187 is for pigments and blending of face powder. Tho the 188 says liquids?

Oh DEFINITELY the 187.

Its bigger, its smoother, and ALL foundation goes on smoother and stuff :)

I have both, and never ever use my 188 seeing as it just doesn't suit me. i think most other people who have both would agree.

Why have you put so many things into my eyes, that I can't see clear
Who's paid you for telling me what I'm worth, and run in fear
It has been for me a strain to see already, what have you done
The rising noise
The sharpened smells
The deadened sight

What is it in my eyes

Resolved Question

I have very fair skin and cant find the right foundation..help please?

i wear Estée Lauder foundation in 'ECRU' which i think is the palest u can get in it. i get it from debenhams skin care, they compared the colours to my skin but everything was too dark. even the palest 'ecru' .
its good makeup good cover, and if its the right colour to your skin it looks like your wearing nothing.
Its still very orange looking on my face...so im thinking of trying something different.

  • I also have very fair skin. Just today, in fact, I bought two new foundations!

Try Maybelline, new Dream Creamy foundation - light porcelain is really fair, I'm wearing it now and it doesn't look like I have any make up on at all!

Also, Maybelline mineral foundation - ivory or again, light porcelain.
Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse in Ivory or Nude is also very, very fair.

    GOOD LUCK!
  • Boots do a natural range as well as the usual No. 7 etc, which as well as being very cheap (usually £3 and under) has loads of different shades. You might have to test them, or you can ask an assistant to match your skin tone :)
  • try bare escentuals mineral foundation. it's the best one i've ever tried. I know they do a sprecific shade for very pale skin. it's not cheap though. have a look at there website or qvc stock it too.
  • well if you're very pale you should go to the doctor because you could have something like anemia which is causing your pale skin. MAC stores have great makeup and have most shades

I know about cosmetics from mark. which is a company created under Avon. I'm a representative so I have the experience.

They have a cleanser that is called "The Calming Effect" it is a soap-free milk cleanser made with natural ingredients and is only $8. It's great for sensitive skin.

A lot of mark. makeup is non-comedogenic and works well with sensitive skin also.

If you want to see some of the products, go to my e-boutique at www.mymarkstore.com/kfalk

  • I'm afraid that it all depends on exactly what ingredient(s) you're allergic to, so it's not really possible to say which of the brands you mention may cause a reaction without doing patch tests..

The only sure-fire way of making certain that what you're using doesn't cause a reaction is to buy a brand that specifically states it's hypoallergenic, such as Almay.

Whats a good matt nude lipstick?

Resolved Question

Whats a good matt nude lipstick?

I have fair skin and I'm looking for a lip colour which is very nude. I've toyed with the idea of Barry M shades because they're coloured, but no colour if you understand. I don't want a lipstick with any shimmer at all, I want a completely matt shade. As I'm young I don't have a huge budget, but any suggestions are welcome! Thanks.

Ladies I Need Help with my Eyebrows?

Resolved Question

Ladies I Need Help with my Eyebrows?

I say ladies because many women know make up tricks that men don't know. I like my eyebrows but I noticed that when I brush them up they look so much better and have a great shape which makes my whole face look better. The problem is that they soon return to their normal position after I brush them, I tried using gel but it makes them oily and it doesnt look as good as natural, I tried mascara but that is too much, what can I use so that they stay the way I brush them for a day without making them look obvious (like with gel) Thanks ladies and sorry for spell I am French. Gunder

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Use clear mascara. Keeps them in place without affecting the colour/texture and it's created to be applied near eyes, which gel and hairspray certainly isn't!!!!

  • There really isn't much else you can do unless you get them waxed to that way you want them to be in. If you do not want to get them waxed then there are good gels that will hold them in place but the best thing to do is just get them waxed a little bit. Alot of men do it so don't think it's not normal or anything.
    Good luck!
  • I use a brow gel by MAC that works great for me. It doesn't look oily or anything. It keeps them in place all day.

I have tried it all over the years- hairspray on a brow brush, clear mascara and drugstore brow gels. I finally spent the extra money on a good brand and got great results.
  • I have used a spritz of firm hair spray on a small tooth brush or a spooly. This holds the hair in place and won't get greasy.

    Source(s):

  • i think a spray(gel) will work. but one thing if you are using the spray please close your eyes before spraying!!! hope that's what you wanted! by the way am sorry as well because am also french so... you understand?
  • salut! je ne suis pas francaise, mais je parle un peu francais.... well, try using garnier fructis's spray gel... and yeah, please close your eyes before you spray anything close to that area! good luck with that! :)
  • loreal has this dual eyebrow thing, and the gel goes on really smooth (as long as you take your time applying it) and your brows won't look fake at all.

    Source(s):

  • i trim mine with siccors. i brush them up with a comb and then i trim the outside of them and the make my face look better
  • Just before you brush them, try putting a little hair spray on the brush. It should hold them in place.
  • Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly
  • Use Shu Uemura clear brow gel - dries clear and natural. Well worth the investment.
  • I agree with the first answer.
Clear mascara would do the trick :)

Buying foundation for the first time?

Resolved Question

Buying foundation for the first time?

I'm 15 and more or less a make up virgin. I want to find a decent foundation, I have quite pink skin and flush easily if that matters, has anyone got any advice at all? Any brands I should check out? And how much should I expect to pay?

Additional Details

A lot of people are asking what 'type' of skin I have. I'm not completely sure but I think oily. I hope that helps. : )

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

The new dream creamy foundation by Maybelline works a treat, It's not as oily or as dry as many foundations you may come across and the coverage is medium so it's pretty much worth the money ( around £6.99 )

But instead of foundation you may just want to get a good concealor instead such as Max factor Pan stick, which is a 2 in 1 stick perfect for flaws. ( about £5 )

If you have pink skin you may want to find a yellow based foundation to tone down the pinkness. Bare minerals are suppossed to do good ones but they are pricey bare in mind.

It is always worth splashing out on a good foundation because ones that don't work for your skin can look very off and cakey.

Make sure you wear a good base or primer underneath to set your foundation well. ( No7 shine free base ) is excellent for oily types of skin.

If you suffer from bad skin be sure to wash your face well twice a day and use a good spot cream at night.

It would be worth you adapt to a good skin care regime now you are starting to wear foundation. :)

  • Don't do it. When I was your age I didn't use any make up (still don't much) and my friend used foundation, as we got older I stayed looking young and my skin was in great condition, hers was awful and she had to use foundation all the time in the end. So I say, don't do it, and if you must, make sure you get a light one, only use it occasionally and make sure you remove it every night.

    Source(s):

  • I wouldn't suggest you use any drug-store brand foundation...they're all full of chemicals, bad oils, and preservatives, and are therfore horrible for your skin and can cause unsightly acne, despite what they may say on the packaging. I would suggest brands like Stila and Korres which use natural ingredients. You can get them at Sephora or online for around $35, although I would go in person if I were you so that you can match your skin exactly. The foundation I use, which I like, is Make Up Forever HD, but that's $50 and I doubt you're looking to spend that much. When you buy a foundation, don't try to match it with the color of your face but rather with the color of your neck. You shouldn't get anything with pink undertones...you should buy a foundation that looks a little yellow so it can counter-act the redness of your face and help to make it look less like you're wearing a mask and more like you just have naturally beautiful skin.
Also, ignore the woman who posted below me. I doubt the sole reason of her friend's bad skin is her use of foundation. And if by some stretch of the imagination it IS the cause, then her friend was clearly using a horrible, cheap foundation.
  • It all depends on what you want to do with your skin. I have a pinkish color to my face too and I flush easily. What I do is get a green tinted primer as well; it will calm down the redness in your face.
I personally like medium coverage and I use the Dior foundation. It's super pricey, so I would say use the MAC Studio Fix. I recommend liquid over powder because powder tends to look really cakey on someone's face, especially if you are dry like me. MAC Studio Fix foundations are usually about 25 dollars and if you pay an additional 5 bucks, you can get a pump which makes the product last a lot longer. It has a yellower undertone, so it won't make you look red. Personally, I would steer clear of Clinique foundations because they all have a red undertone and it makes me look pink. It might work for you, but for me, I don't like it.
If you MUST get one from a drug store, at least go to sephora, get yourself matched, take home a sample that you can ask for and bring it to the drug store. That way you can find a color that resembles your sample.
  • Well, what type of skin do you have? Dry? Oily? Combination?
    If you have dry:
Try to find a foundation closest to your skin color and make sure to use a good moisturizer before applying your foundation.
    Oily:
Use any kind of foundation you like but make sure on the bottle it says, "Oil-Free" because too much oily will make your face too greasy and you'll probably break out.
    Combination:
If you have combination skin, you'll have to find a foundation that makes your skin the perfect balance. So it would moisturize dry areas, and take shine out of oily areas. I have this skin, and I use Almay's Smart Balance liquid foundation. It's perfect.

Just experiment with different foundations, and I'm sure you'll find one you like.
    Try brands like:
    Cover Girl
    Maybelline
    Almay
    Revlon
    L'oreal
    etc etc.

Most foundations are from $5-$15 at drugstores.
  • For clinique you would be the shade 01 Petal. Also, everyone is always happy with MAC foundations too, but honestly it depends on whether you have dry or oily skin. For those brands I'd expect to pay around 30 dollars but the foundations can last up to a year.
For drugstore, I like covergirl foundation. But I have heard great things about Revlon Color Stay. But if you go to MAC or sephora, clinique, etc they will match your shade perfectly unlike in a drugstore.
But honestly once you start wearing foundation its hard to stop because you think you NEED the coverage but you really don't. I suggest just a powder and bronzer to give you a nice finish.
  • the most important thing is to get the right colour foundation for your skin, people always make the mistake of getting the wrong colour and look orange or really pale.

If you don't have much money there are lots of great foundations around, I would recommend the Revlon Colourstay range, they stay on all day and look natural but have good coverage. Also I love most of Rimmels foundations.

However if you're willing to spend a bit more money to get the best foundation, I would recommend this because as the rule goes, the better brands are worth the money, so you pay more but you definately can see how much better they are. My favourite foundations are from MAC. They are so amazing, the makeup artists in the store will match you up for your perfect colour, so it will look so natural and they glide on and look so flawless! Also Clinique foundations are really good.

I know your just starting out with makeup, and when I was like you, I would watch makeup gurus on youtube such as, juicystar07, bubzbeauty, michellephan, allthatglitters21, makeupbytiffanyd, and get ideas from them, then just test out different foundations until I found my perfect one, which for me is the MAC ones!

    Hope I helped!
  • Everyone has different skin types so you don't have to necessarily stick with the first foundation you buy. Go to a make-up counter in places such as Debenhams (in the UK) or other large department stores. Here, they have assistants to help you to choose the right make-up for your skin type and tone.
Often, it is worth investing in a more expensive brand. However, personally, I find the that the key to good make-up is to cleanse, tone and moisturise every morning and evening. Don't be sparse with the moisturiser, it tightens your skin, to give a more even coverage.
    Good luck! x
  • Rimmel recover foundation is really great. It brightens the skin i've been using it since i first started wearing make-up when i was abround 12/13 years old.

Different people like different kinds of foundations. Liquids, mousse, powder.

Because your skin is fair dont go for a really dark colour. It will look really bad and orange.
  • I would try Revlon Color Stay Foundation. They have a wide variety of colors.
make sure its a little darker than your skin is, and that you can see a bit pink of it in the bottle.

It's sorta hard to answer this question if you don't tell us your skin type, or how much coverage you need.
  • well if you have dry skin i wouldn't advise you to get dream up matte moose because this is a very dry foundation,
i think you should expect to pay around a £5 and go into boots and try out the testers to see which one suits you.
  • estee lauder is really good, double wear!

check my blog if you can http://missgreeneyes1987.blogspot.com/
  • Mac studio tech is GREAT !!!! it has good coverage and lasts all day :)

Resolved Question

Makeup majorly changes my confidence.. but tryin to wear less.. pics..?

when i have makeup on i feel fine about myself, but without it i dont even like looking my boyfriend in the eye. i have this kinda picture of myself in my head thats really bad (even when wearing makeup) but when i look in the mirror i realise its not as bad as i sometimes think.. (although i have really bad days too, where il do my makeup then smear it all and cry becoz i feel i look ridiculous.)

honestly, you are beautiful.
your bone structure is impeccable, and your skin looks flawless. your eyes are gorgeous, so let yourself be free from the makeup!
I used to wear a lot of makeup too until I realised that most of it was because of insecurity. you have to embrace who you are and be yourself. Next time you're hanging around with your boyfriend, just put on some mascara and lip balm. maybe even a little blush. The fact that he tells you to go natural for the day shows that he cares about you and sees how beautiful you are!
As far as the 13 year old thing....it's proably not as bad as you think. people used to think I was twice my age when I was 13 and not wearing any makeup!
Just ease yourself into it, and don't make yourself crazy doing it.

  • I think you are absolutely beautiful with great cheekbones. Makeup is not about making you pretty, its about accentuating the beauty you already have. There is nothing wrong with leaving the makeup behind sometimes. Men actually tend to like to see the natural face of a woman sometimes. Sounds to me like you have a self esteem problem.
  • it doesnt even look like you're wearing that much. you have good bone structure so i think you should be fine with out it.

just take it in small steps, start by leaving off one thing at a time and progressing until you feel comfortable with out make up at all. like, leave off the lip stuff for a week or two, then leave off the lip stuff & eye liner, then all of that and mascara, ect
  • thats so weird, you look like me. and im exactly the same as you and i have the same problem
just try putting a little on and see if you like yourself like that and if not then just keep adding more until your happy
but try not to reach back to the normal amount of make up you usually put on.
for people that are extremly addicted to make up like us cant just let it go straight away
been there done that didnt work. haha
    hope i helped :)
  • You're insanely pretty.

And I don't think you're wearing that much makeup...Maybe just lay off the blush and don't use liquid eyeliner, or whatever is on your top lid lulz.
If I were you I'd just wear a light eyeliner on the inside of the bottom eyelid and false lashes. Not those drag queen ones, though. You know what I mean? :p
  • you are really pretty, and i'm honestly not just saying that!

you'd still look great without makeup too, you don't even wear that much except the eyeliner above your eyes, that's a bit too much. if you didnt want to take it all off just stop wearing eyeliner.
  • I think you'd look pretty much the same

and yeah I'm the same way, lol I realize i look pretty much the same without it it as well and sometimes when I wash it off I think I look better but I never go out without at least concealer and mascara
  • you are very pretty with makeup and you'd look just as good without any at all and you're not fat sweetie, you're perfect!
  • You're gorgeous!! Forget makeup :)
  • vanity is never attractive
  • you are very beautiful....now i wouldnt say you wear too much makeup..and no you would not look bad without makeup
  • Your not ugly! Screw make up!
  • why don't you post a pic with no makeup and then I will tell you if you look ok or not
  • your reallyyy prettty you don't need makeupp i am trulyy sayinn that!
  • u know ur not ugly.boost ego elsewhere!!
  • OF COURSE...you're being silly! You're really pretty, but I guess you would be just as pretty without makeup. I'm a makeup addict myself, so I know how you feel. I also used to be a makeup artist. I just recently started to go out of the house without makeup again. I live in Queens, New York and I would never ever ever go anywhere, especially into the city (Manhattan) without makeup. Well the other day I did...I was still getting guys trying to talk to me and calling me sexy and beautiful, now grant it...I thought something must have been wrong with them, but it still made me feel good...lol. Seems like you're always fully made up, so I would suggest at first you try LESS makeup and then take it from there instead of going "cold turkey". A little mascara and lip gloss go a long way.
  • honey, your boyfriend is totally right! i have seen girls millions of times worse off than you!
i know that a lot of actresses would die for your big eyes, or dark hair & your dark silky hair is lovely.
its normal to feel self conscious but honestly, you have no reason. & im not just trying to make you feel better, you have lovely skin, beautiful features etc... its natural to want to envy celebs, but you are naturally very sweet looking. i bet there's loads of girls that envy you! if you want to come out of your shell slowly, stick to very natural shades!
